Meet The Ocala Insurance Guy
Jay A. Cohen
I help individuals, families and businesses understand complicated insurance decisions, protect the people and responsibilities that matter to them, and plan for the future with greater confidence.
Insurance Guidance Built Around Real People
As The Ocala Insurance Guy, I have never believed that an insurance conversation should begin with a product. It should begin with understanding the person, family or business in front of me—their responsibilities, concerns, goals and the people they want to protect.
As a licensed health and life insurance agent, I help individuals, families and businesses evaluate health insurance, life insurance, annuities, employee benefits, ICHRA, level-funded health plans, and dental and vision coverage. I begin by asking questions, listening carefully and identifying what the coverage is actually expected to accomplish.
My role is to make complicated insurance topics easier to understand, explain the available choices and discuss the costs, limitations and tradeoffs honestly. When an option is not appropriate for someone’s needs, priorities or budget, I will say so.
Who I Help
I work with individuals and families looking for health, life, dental, vision and retirement-income options, as well as employers building benefits programs for their employees.
Every situation begins with a different concern. Someone may be trying to protect a young family, replace employer coverage, prepare for retirement, provide for a dependent, strengthen an employee-benefits program or determine how existing insurance fits with changing responsibilities.
I also work with clients whose planning involves substantial life insurance needs, retirement assets, business responsibilities, legacy goals or charitable giving. For these clients, the conversation is not simply about leaving money. It is about deciding what their resources should continue supporting—a spouse, children or grandchildren, a family business, a religious community, a nonprofit organization or another cause that matters to them.
Whether you know exactly what you need or are simply trying to determine where to begin, I can help you organize your concerns, understand the available options and identify the questions that deserve closer attention.
A Personal and Analytical Approach
Insurance is personal. The right coverage depends on more than a product name, an illustration or a monthly premium. It should reflect the people you want to protect, the responsibilities you carry and the goals you are working toward.
I am naturally analytical and detail-oriented. I want to understand how an option works, what assumptions it depends on, which provisions are guaranteed and where the limitations or tradeoffs may be. That means I am willing to examine the details, question information that is unclear and help clients look beyond an attractive headline or initial number.
I take the time to understand what matters to you before discussing possible solutions. I explain how the available options work, where meaningful differences exist and what may need to be coordinated with financial, tax or legal professionals.
Mentorship and education have always been important parts of how I work with people. My role is not simply to present choices. It is to help you understand those choices, ask better questions and make a decision you can explain and feel comfortable living with.
Local Service With a Broader Reach
Ocala, Florida is home, and it is an important part of who I am and how I work. Being known as The Ocala Insurance Guy reflects my connection to the community and my commitment to being available when clients have questions or need help.
At the same time, my work extends beyond Central Florida. I am licensed in multiple states and can assist individuals, families and businesses with coverage needs that may cross state lines.
Whether we meet locally, speak by phone or connect virtually, you can expect the same personal attention, clear communication and ongoing support.

Connected to the Community
Being part of the Ocala community means more to me than simply doing business here. I believe community is strengthened when people are willing to contribute their time, accept responsibility and help bring others together.
As an active member of Temple Beth Shalom, I serve in leadership and help coordinate the congregation’s monthly dinners for Interfaith Emergency Services. Working with volunteers, sponsors and local businesses to provide meals for people in need has reinforced the importance of showing up, communicating clearly and following through when others are counting on you.
I have also served on the boards of directors of several nonprofit organizations. Those experiences have deepened my appreciation for responsible leadership, careful stewardship and the practical challenges organizations face while serving their members and planning for the future.
As an entrepreneur who has owned and operated businesses, I understand the responsibilities that come with serving customers, supporting employees, managing costs and preparing for what may come next. That perspective helps me understand the concerns business owners bring to conversations about insurance and employee benefits.
As a member of Toastmasters International since 2012, I am an experienced public speaker. Speaking and mentoring have strengthened my ability to listen carefully and make complex insurance and financial concepts understandable and approachable. I bring those skills to every client conversation, whether speaking with one person or addressing a group.

Insurance Education Beyond the Appointment
I believe an informed client is better prepared to make a decision they can understand and maintain. That is why education is part of my work before, during and after an individual conversation.
As The Ocala Insurance Guy, I use this website, educational articles, calculators, YouTube and Facebook to explain insurance topics, answer common questions and help people recognize the details and assumptions worth examining.
These resources provide a starting point, not individualized advice. When your circumstances require personal guidance, I can help you organize the information, identify unanswered questions and evaluate how the available options relate to your needs.
